SRHA General Meeting Minutes April 26, 2023
President Christina Brownlow welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM. She thanked Carlos Martinez and his wife for opening their home for the meeting, which was held in their backyard pavilion. She asked the new Davie Police Department Detective Eddie Velazquez to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. She also thanked the Sunshine Ranches board members and asked each of them to introduce themselves, since some of them are new members and since there were several residents who were attending an HOA meeting for the first time. We had the Sunshine Ranches t-shirts available for any member who had not previously received one.
Chris also recognized several people who served in the military and advised that they are being featured in the May issue of the Waggler in a Memorial Day tribute.
Davie Police: Detective Velazquez introduced himself and asked the other members of the police department to do the same. Lt. Scott Leon was recently placed over the Community Officer Police unit or C.O.P., which are officers assigned to tackle problems in communities like ours. Officer Elliot was not present, and he is our C.O.P. for recurring issues.
The major item covered by DP was the mail theft issue, which continues to be a major problem. There was a recent arrest of a mail thief, in which the car went into the canal at 148 Ave. and Luray, and the vehicle had multiple stolen mail (21 pieces in all). This is being turned over from Davie PD to Federal and the individual will be charged for 21 felony counts. Davie Police continues to remind residents to check their mail and to lock their cars. This is an organized crime issue affecting the entire county and our area specifically, since they are targeting folks who leave their key fobs in their unlocked cars.
Former Detective Hobales retired last month and he thanked everyone via speaker phone.
President Chris asked each attendee to briefly introduce himself or herself. There were about 35 people in attendance.
The only Council update was from Councilperson David Kuczenski who showed a rough rendering of the Town magazine which will soon be printed in color.
Treasurer Jason Halberg gave the budget balance, which as of March 2023 was $29,814.14. Our fiscal year begins April 1. He also reported that we currently have 225 members, which is a record number.
We concluded with a fun raffle, which VP DaNell D’Alfonso ran for the group.
The next meeting will be on May 31 at 7:30 pm at Town Hall. The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 PM.
