Reported by Residents: Black Lexus speeding east on Luray, passing other cars;
And hearing gunshots at Abundant Living Ministries two weeks ago, was told they were practice shooting which had been cleared by Pembroke Pines; Officer Bradley recommended complaining to Pembroke Pines.
Sandra recognized Vice Mayor Freddy Fisikelli and Aster Knight in attendance.
Update on Town Events and Projects by Councilman Gary Jablonski
Gary stated that the SRHA bronze plaques were cut into the stones in the oasis area of the Equestrian Park and passed around photos; pictures from our past were installed in the East Room in the Rolling Oaks Barn.
Public Service Announcements:
Classic Car Show (AKF), November 14, 11 am – 3 pm;
Mini-Flow, November 19 and December 11;
Country Estates Park Trail grand opening, December 5, 12 noon – 4 pm.
Public Works Projects:
Dykes Road drainage project;
Stirling Road guard rail installation;
Town Hall roofing project and parking lot.
Gary commented on the report of shooting at ALM; the State of Florida allows this on private property.
Sandra shared concern of damage to swales and canal banks by the bulk waste trucks and took photos of the damage. Gary suggested sending the photos to Sandy Luongo, who will place “Do not place bulk trash here” signs. Sandra commented this won’t solve the problem, as we will run out of space to place bulk trash; the issue needs to be addressed. A resident stated that some residents who do not live on the canal side are placing their bulk trash on the canal side. Also noted that some also place their bulk along the canal and extend the trash five feet into the street, which is dangerous.

The SRHA was present at the Craft Fair, $47 was made from the 50-50 raffle, one resident signed up as a member;
The two large entrance signs were repaired and repainted; the metal plaques were removed to be cleaned and restored; partial landscaping will begin soon with help from volunteer and resident Ryan Case; a resident remarked suggested we use the color scheme from the town signs and adapt it into our signs; she also noted that the landscaping never survives at the Flamingo and Stirling sign because a large locust colony lives in the canal bank; they hatch in the summer and feed on the plants.
Regarding the five smaller metal signs throughout our neighborhood, Ryan Case has volunteered to look into having the signs wrapped;
The Town’s Birthday Celebration: SRHA will host a pumpkin patch, baked goods sale, 50-50 raffle; residents are needed to pick up the pumpkins from the Methodist church on November 1; need volunteers on the day of the event to work our booth
Classic Car Show: Volunteers are needed to solicit Farmer’s Market vendors.

6700 block of Dykes Road: motorcycle crash
Illegal handicapped parking enforcement will be heightened, $250 fine
Cars parked on swales & partial roadway is fine if emergency vehicles are able to get through
In past month, 13 car burglaries in Ivanhoe Estates and two east of Volunteer, involved mainly unlocked vehicles – LOCK YOUR CARS!
Car went into the canal in the 13900 block of Stirling, no injuries;
Car rollover, no ejections or injuries, closure of Stirling & Volunteer intersection;
Illegal Parking along 130th Avenue by parents picking up kids from school will be addressed as state law requires cars to park a certain distance from corner.

Public Service Announcements:
October 10: Household Hazardous Waste, Electronics & Bulk Drop Off Event and Shred-A-Thon;

October 31: ROCA sponsoring Halloween at the Barn;
November 7: Town’s Birthday Party at the Rolling Oaks Barn with a “Dunk Tank” involving the Town Council.
Active Capital Projects:
Design phase of a new roof for Town Hall, parking lot will be improved;
Design phase for a playground at Caloosa Corner;
In the next 45 days, guardrails will be installed on Stirling, followed by striping.
The rumble strips on Stirling have dropped the average speed 5 MPH and the maximum 20 MPH. Resident noted that only 40 people supported rumble strips on Stirling.
Historical Society: Laura Warren reported that the Society has received very well-kept documents, artwork & memorabilia. Framed photos will be hung at Rolling Oaks Barn, and original Sunshine Ranches bronze plaques will be cut into the Equestrian Park stones. Town Hall walls will be utilized for exhibits; the first two will be “Early Pioneers” & “In the News.” Arcadia Publishing employs authors to write books about towns; Assembled historical information will be submitted to Arcadia Publishing which will publish a book of our history at no cost, for sale to residents for approx. $20-25.00.

Committee Reports
Membership (Sandra): 307 members total. Bob made a donation for the beautification of the entrance walls; Ani singled out Judi and Bob for their tireless support; we need new people to get involved.
Drainage (Vince Falletta): The catch basin and drainage project on Mustang and Hancock hasn’t started yet; this is the newest project we have going. Thanked Laura for all of her work on the Historical Society.
Unfinished Business
Meeting Signs: Gratitude to Bob for going out on Mondays to place the signs and removing them on Thursdays.
Road Signs: Identifying all streets in Sunshine Ranches needing horse crossing signs, stop signs, speed limit signs and location of metal rods that need to be removed; wants to be consistent with the signage on our streets; submittal to Town by end of October.
New Business
Aster Knight: On November 14, there will be a Classic Car event in the Rolling Oaks Park; AKF was formed to partner with the Town in development of parks. To date, $80,000 has been raised and invested back into our parks.
Neighborhood Safety Grant: Ani stated that our proposal was decided upon by the majority of the members attending the general meetings; a petition with 80 signatures opposing the rumble strips was presented. Following is the general consensus from residents regarding the proposed rumble strips project:
Speeding is obviously a problem in the Ranches;
Negatives: Rumble strips may adversely affect golf carts & cars, potentially reduce property values, increase noise
Positives: Significant reduction of speeding & thru-traffic, No damage to cars
Alternate Solutions: Increased Police presence, Solar Powered Speed Limit Sign that flash vehicle’s speed, Town Survey, Camera
Conclusion: Davie Police will increase presence on Luray & Mustang for next 30 days, with resident feedback expected in late October. SRHA will research cost for solar speed limit signs & Camera solutions, discuss Survey option with SRW.

70 service calls in Sunshine Ranches this month;
162 citations issued in August and 18 accidents reported;
Two golf carts were stolen from a fenced-in yard on Stirling;
Be vigilant of school zones and report any suspicious activity;
Resident asked that more attention be given to the side streets (Luray and Mustang) with regard to speeders trying to avoid Stirling.

The Stirling Road guardrails will be installed before the striping is applied to the road, which will narrow the lanes;
A resident requested that the pothole on Holatee (Luray and Mustang) be filled
A resident asked how long a permitted building site can remain vacant
Guest Speaker: Chief Lee Bennett of the SWR Volunteer Fire Rescue
Has been involved with fire/rescue for 31 years, was Chief of Port Everglades;
SWRVFR has 40 certified firefighters, majority are EMTs and paramedics;
Area covered: 160th Avenue to US27 and Griffin to Sheridan
SWRVFR provides quicker emergency response; starting CPR & basics;
The contract with Davie is for $2.6 million, Town’s firefighters receive $340,000;
SWRVFR will schedule a night to teach a CPR class.

Safety Grant Application: Securing final bid, need letters from residents on Luray and Mustang related to speeding
Adopt a Corner: Both large signs are cleaned up; need volunteers on 9/12 & 9/26, 8-11:00 am for improvements; the Town has approved use of the water from the fire hydrant at Griffin and Hancock to water the plants there; the Town will provide a logo sign for the Flamingo and Stirling entrance.
Board Appreciation Event for the board members will take place on Sept. 4th.
Upcoming Events: Farmer’s Market at Craft Fair and the Aster Knight fundraiser; SRHA will host a tent at the Town’s birthday celebration on 11/7, joint HOA town-wide Christmas party on 12/19.

Membership: Two new members, 305 members total.
Sunshine (Rachel Greene): Sent three welcome letters to new property owners; her nephew, Vinton Blount, is a finalist on “America’s Got Talent”; advice: if your property is declared a wetland, fight it; the Greenes and Rosina won their cases.
Drainage (Vince Falletta): People use the canals as a disposal unit; Central Broward Water Control District uses thousands of our dollars to clean up our canals; volunteered to call members to attend our meetings.
Beautification: There are handouts for the Adopt-a-Corner project.

Rick Bell: AKF fundraiser: Nov. 14th, 11:00am-3:00pm; 200-300 classic cars, $20 to enter a car, prizes will be awarded; a country fair for families, staffed byTown volunteers; a booth run by the Rare Fruit and Vegetable Council; purpose is to raise funds to supplement and help improve the Town’s parks; Councilman Doug McKay challenged his fellow councilmen to participate in a “Dunk Booth.”
